Andre Matos

André Matos (1971-2019) was a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and musician, best known for his work in the heavy metal and progressive metal genres. He gained prominence as the lead vocalist of the influential band Angra, which he co-founded in 1991. Matos's powerful and versatile voice, combined with his classical music influences, helped define Angra's sound, particularly on their acclaimed debut album, *Angels Cry* (1993), and subsequent releases like *Holy Land* (1996) and *Fireworks* (2000). In addition to his work with Angra, Matos pursued a successful solo career, releasing albums such as *Time to Be Free* (2007) and *The Turn of the Lights* (2013). He was also involved with other projects, including the symphonic metal band Shaman. Matos's contributions to the metal scene, particularly in Brazil, were significant, as he helped to popularize the genre in Latin America and inspired a new generation of musicians. His blend of melodic elements with heavy metal, along with his charismatic stage presence, left a lasting legacy in the world of rock and metal music.
